Depressions and Anticyclones
Okay, clearly this man looks sad, maybe he's lost his wallet or mobile phone...nightmare! Thats enough to make you feel depressed and low :-(
Thankfully, weather depressions dont have wallets or mobile phones but they do form when warm air meets cold air.
Depressions form over the atlantic ocean and are low pressure weather systems. Here is how they form.
1. Warm, moist air from the tropics meets cold, dry air from the poles.
2. The warm air is less dense so it rises above the cold air.
3. Condensation occurs as the warm air rises causing rain clouds to develop.
4. Rising air also causes low pressure at the earth's surface.
5. Winds blow into the depression in a spiral.
6. A warm front is at the front edge of the moving warm air. A cold front is the front edge of the moving cold air.
Anticyclones cause clear skies and dry weather
Here are the important bits to remember...
1.Anticyclones also form over the atlantic ocean.
2.when air falls it creates high pressure and light winds blowing outwards, this is an anticyclone.
3. The falling air gets warmer so clouds are unable to form which means clear skies and know rain for days or even weeks!
4. during the summer months anti cyclones are responsible for long periods of hot, dry, clear weather. As there are no clouds to absord the suns heat energy the suface of the earth gets hotter causing rising temperatures.
5.During the winter months anticyclones cause long periods of cold, foggy weather. at night there are no clouds to clouds to relflect heat back to the earth so the temperature drops. As a result of this condensation occurs close to the earths surface and forms fog.

Now this person seems to be very anti cyclones. However, protesting against them will do no good at all!
